Life is deadly, [but] I am [still] alive1
[Lyrics/Music: Miya]

Living is pain, all the people avert their eyes
Betrayal, jealousy, lies, deprivation2
One night of love cannot heal3 these wounds
This universal melody does not commute my heart

Everybody seems to be as pure as a puppy
But without them knowing, their purity has been soiled
Abandoning, cheating, getting intimate4
That day’s sunset had been stained by this first lie

A reputations’ nothingness is a name, sung about in sadness
My body shakes in the gentle breeze

Everybody, everyone has to endure pain
If we lick our wounds, we can maybe forget about it
Even you and me hide our anxiety
If we embrace each other for just one moment, we might be able to forget about it

Ah, does the ego kill the power to live in a world of dead dreams?
Idiotic

Everyone, everyone has to endure pain
In starless nights, my desire makes me grumble
But nevertheless, the morning dawns again
The morning glow starts to uncover the reality
I have to take it all, the emptiness which is like the sky5
Only, I should have loved, just once

Living is pain, all the people have to face themselves

1  The title “shisei, inochi ari” wasn’t easy to translate. But in the end, I stuck to this version because I like the sound of it and because it fits with the lyrics. The words in brackets aren’t there, but I had to put them to emphasise.
2  He’s talking about deprivation of love, I guess.
3  The reading of the Kanji here is “iyasenai” = “cannot be healed”. But Tatsurou actually sings “hakusenai” = “isn’t a habit”. So, the way it’s sung, the sentence would most likely go “One night of love doesn’t cause wounds”
4  I just love this line. Description of how you betray your lover – in only three words. Awesome.
5  He seems to refer to the “starless night” he mentioned before.

Translated by Eurydike.
